Also the historic city of Orihuela, approx. 8 km, is definitely recommended: here are large supermarkets, good restaurants where you can eat for a very reasonable price, cozy terraces etc.
Every Tuesday and Saturday there are lively markets in Orihuela.
Within half an hour you can be on one of the beautiful beaches of Torrevieja.
During the day, explore the area, have a day of doing nothing at your own private pool or go to the beach. A trip to the interior or the nearby cities of Elche, Alicante or the beautiful city of Murcia is also a good idea to spend the day pleasantly. In the evening, light the BBQ, have a glass of wine and your day can't go wrong.
